It’s Time to Get Your Home Spring Ready!

March might have just arrived, but it won’t be long before April and May are here! That makes March the perfect month to get your home spring ready. There’s a lot of work to do to clear away winter and all that came with it so your home is ready for warmer weather, but with the following tips, you can get your home in tip-top shape for spring in no time.
You’ll want to start with the outside of your home before you do anything else, as this is the part of your house that has taken the most winter damage. Grab a ladder, have a look at your gutters, and clean them of any debris. Then, take a look at your roof shingles to see if any were damaged by ice and snow. If they were, they’ll need to be replaced. Finally, check out your windows. Chances are you can’t see through them clearly, meaning they’re pretty dirty! Wash the outside of them before moving on to clean the inside of the windows.
Do you have a chimney? If so, now is the time to have it inspected. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that your chimney be inspected and cleaned thoroughly once a year. Doing that now will get rid of any build-up from the winter that may cause more damage if it’s left to linger until fall. And since we’re on the subject of fire safety, why not spend a moment testing out your smoke alarms and replacing dead batteries? Finally, have your dryer vents professionally cleaned to rid your home of one more potential fire hazard!
Finally, you can move on to cleaning the inside of your home! Besides any regular spring cleaning you might do, you may want to consider doing a deep clean, as well. Scrub your baseboards and walls (and check for mold while you do so), and clean showerheads and faucets by soaking them in equal parts water and vinegar for an hour before rinsing. And replace items like water and air vent filters (these need to be replaced every 3 to 6 months).
It may seem like a lot of work but these steps will get your home prepared for spring in no time, then you and your family will be ready to enjoy the warmer weather and fun knowing your home is ready to go!
